The element of FIRE

The four basic elements are Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. They are the energetic building blocks of everything in nature, including humans. Before going into details about Fire, I highly recommend that you first read about The Elements in general so that you get a better idea about different correspondences and learn about elemental hierarchies.

The energy of Fire

Fire is the element of passion, courage, will, protection, and life force. It is a masculine element that represents change, leadership, inspiration, love, and sexuality. Its symbols include sun, volcanoes, lava, heat, open flame, candles, bonfires, and fire-forged objects.  When used for cleansing, it often goes in combination with Air, the other male element. Together they are represented in burning incense and smudging the space. Work associated with Fire includes burning, lighting candles and fires, work around the cauldron, and baking. Guitar and string instruments are connected with this element.

The energy of fire

Fire is the most spiritual of elements and has a transformative power. It destroys, purifies, and makes room for new. There is no creation without transformation.

There is nothing more transformative than the energy of Fire. It is the power of this element that we need in both our daily and spiritual lives to get moving and be fierce. Our inner flame burns brightly and touches everything that we come in contact with. If it provides light or burns people is up to us and our ability to control its properties. The opposing manifestations of Fire are the most prominent in comparison to other elements. On one side, it will burn everything on its path, create chaos, and destruction. On the other hand, its light and warmth bring guidance, hope, and security in rough times. It all depends on our personal relationship with this element, for Fire is both daring, passionate, and brave as it is jealous, angry, and aggressive.

How to work with Fire?

Working with Fire includes burning things and transforming things. This is most often portrayed in burning paper on which we wrote something that we want to change or destroy in our lives. This way, Fire acts as the remover of obstacles for us by clearing everything on our path so we may walk it after all dangers have been cleansed. Candles and open flames can be great sources of visions from the divine or spirit guides while cooking/baking is one of the great examples of transformative work. From meals in our daily lives to creating soaps, candles, and smudges, whenever you are using old to create something new, you are working with the energy of Fire.

If you want to plan your ritual or magical work according to Fire, work around noon, from waxing to full moon, in the summer, on Beltane and Litha, and in the south corner of room.

Use candles, cauldrons, censers, and metallic objects when working with this element. Metals are forged in fire, so they are often seen as its creations or children while flames of candles and burning fires are representations of the element itself. Throughout history, it has been said that people with natural red hair have been kissed by the element of Fire.

“You cannot use someone else's fire. You can only use your own. And in order to do that, you must first be willing to believe that you have it.”
― Audre Lorde

Characteristics of Fire in humans

Your goal should always be to equally cherish and take care of the energies of all elements in your body, mind, and soul. However, it is not rare that some people exhibit more from one element than another. Those who are particularly skillful with Fire and who carry its energy are those who are very good in cooking and building stuff. They are passionate, loud, and often get into conflicts. However, they are also very brave, protective of others, have strong opinions about social justice and a need to punish bad behavior. With their strong will, competitive spirit, and passionate temper, you will see them among sportsmen, authority figures, firefighters, chefs, and fighters of any kind.
